Valentine’s Day just got a lot more special. D’Angelo has announced a special Verzuz concert with friends, which will stream live from the historic The Apollo on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. ET.

The soul crooner shared the news during an Instagram live broadcast on Sunday night. He also teased that a new album is coming soon. It will follow his critically-acclaimed 2014 album, Black Messiah, which won Best R&B Album at the 58th Grammy Awards.

This will mark the second music-related event Verzuz has hosted in 2021. In January, Ashanti and Keyshia Cole held their Verzuz battle from separate locations. The R&B veterans garnered over 6 million views across various platforms, including Instagram Live and Apple Music.

D’Angelo is expected to invite several other musicians he has collaborated with in the past to join him for the special showcase. Social media users are already guessing some of the names that could show up at The Apollo that evening with Dangelo Verzuz.

In 2019, it was reported that D’Angelo was working on new music. Carine Bijlsma, the director behind his documentary, Devil’s Pie — D’Angelo, confirmed the information. “He was in the studio these past weeks. He has big plans for the future, so you’ll definitely be seeing more of him,” she teased.

The Virginia-born Grammy winner’s discography includes songs with Lauryn Hill, Method Man, Redman, Common, Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, and more. D’Angelo has also worked with Ali Shaheed Muhammed, Angie Stone, Raphael Saadiq, DJ Premier, Q-Tip, Questlove, and others.

Following his debut studio album Brown Sugar coming out in 1995, D’Angelo also released 2000’s Voodoo and 2014’s Black Messiah. All three projects have been celebrated as classics by fans, professional music critics, and other recording artists.

The D’Angelo Vs Friends Verzuz event is scheduled for Saturday, February 27 at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on @verzuztv’s Instagram Live and Apple Music.

Attendance for the popular Instagram series, which pits two performers or producers in a 20-round battle of their songs, cracked the seven-digit mark again.
